Dear Commodore Newton:

On behalf of the Northeast Sailing Association and all its clubs and individual sailors I would like to thank and commend Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club and its membership and staff for hosting the 2013 Junior Olympics last week.  Bob McCann and his team of volunteers did a terrific job organizing and running such a major event.

I know first-hand the great amount of work involved with these events and that they can be disruptive to the daily routine and comfort of a club.  I also know how important they are to the future growth and health of our sport and our clubs.  This event is a major highlight for the young sailors that they will remember for decades.  Not only do the Junior Olympics provide an exciting competitive setting for the young sailors, but the regatta also exposes the hosting club and its adult members to a size and level of competition not commonly seen in Maine; it is a great education and a first-rate opportunity to give back to the sport and support our youth.

Again, thank you and congratulations to the entire club, and especially to Bob McCann who had the vision, courage, and energy to step forward, taking the lead in having the club host this major event.  And good luck and thanks in advance for also again hosting the Maine State Optimist Championships, which are right around the corner, and is another significant event.  Hosting both these events is a real tribute to the spirit, character, and energy of your club.

With best regards,

Jonathan Foot

President
